It's best used as a midrange / close range weapon. If you play wvw its very good as area denial weapon and to hit stealthed targets. Engineer is a very fun class to play, but they're 50% control and 50% damage, compared to staff ele which is 75% damage and 25% control (imho) No you shouldn't.
Best PVE Damage Classes. Mechanist-Engineer. Out of all the classes on this list, Mechanist is one of the best PVE classes in Guild Wars 2 and possibly the easiest to play. Bladesworn-Warrior. Renegade-Revenant. Thief. Last but not least for DPS is the Thief. In general, Thief is a very versatile
Another core aspect to the PvE end game of Guild Wars 2 is strikes and raids. Strikes are ten player raid-like activities that are meant to be an introduction into the more difficult raid encounters at the end game.
Ranger has decent mobility on daggers, but offhand dagger is quite bad everywhere. Class is strong in pvp, pve and roaming in wvw, but only pve soulbeast uses (mainhand) dagger effectively. Necro has no mobility on daggers (low mobility in general as well) and I dont remember the last time necro had good build with at least one of those.
2. Spudzie’s Low-Intensity Deadeye Build - Open World PvE. Low-intensity builds are always welcome choice for our lists because they allow players who normally wouldn't be able to play to enjoy the game. Spudzie, a Guild Wars 2 content creator, has created another fantastic build for the Deadeye.
Preferred Healer in Raids. Tempest (Elementalist ESpec) - Best sustained healing (highest HPS), versatile boon support with mix of offense and defense, access to Elemental Auras for the team. Currently sees more use as a Kiter for certain Raid Bosses, works perfectly fine but isn't really preferred in many cases.
Uses the Diviner gear. Something like that increases the chance to find i spot while being dps. Generally speaking people aren't that picky about dps. You probably need to unlock a elite spec to get "viable" Dps/boon dps. While thief has sword as a Power DPS weapon it is not viable option in PvE group content.
Effectively, the top DPS build for every class (but Warrior) is a condition build. It's unclear if Warrior performs better on condi or power in terms of pure DPS. Just 3 months ago, Warrior happened to have a 39k power DPS benchmark, and I can't find a more recent Condition benchmark than this one.
